Television Packages
On this page you can find my TV news packages, on stories ranging from health to languages.
Language Learning Decline
A report by the Higher Education Policy Institute this year found a catastrophic decline in formal language learning, with more students studying A-Level PE than French, German and Classical Languages combined.
At a higher level, degree programme uptake has also dropped, with around 30 universities across the country having closed their language departments since 2014.
The University of Salford allows students to take a language alongside their degree, through the University Wide Language Programme, which can be a credited module on some courses. That, however, is changing.
My first TV package of year 3! Thoroughly enjoyed doing this, great fun to incorporate the different languages and to use some of the skills from Italian classes last year, German ones this year and even back to my GCSE German!
Multiple Sclerosis Tech Explainer and Package
For Tuesday's newsday this week I was working on a story about new technology that can be used to help with the tracking and treating of multiple sclerosis.
I decided that the best treatment for the story was to begin with a live explainer in the studio and then to go into my package on the story.
Greater Manchester Ringway Package
For this newsday I decided to do a nice end of show 'and finally' piece - a bit of a fun and different one to usual...
Apologies if you're from Wigan...
The Blood Bikes
We all know what a brilliant job the NHS does, but what about the Blood Bikes? They provide a brilliant service for not only patients, but also the NHS itself, delivering vital blood, breast milk and equipment.
I talked to Geoff Naldrett from the Freewheeler EVS and Laurance Pallant, a doctor who receives blood and more from the Blood Bikes.
This package, shows just how important (and cool) their service it.
The package was the first one I created at University.
Intestinal Failure
Intestinal Failure
Intestinal failure is known as the forgotten organ failure, as so few know about it. However, there are people fighting to spread awareness of the condition.
For this package I interviewed Cathy Cawley, who works in Salford Royal as a lead nurse, and Carolyn Wheatley MBE, who is an executive committee member for the charity PINNT, whilst being an intestinal failure patient herself.
Salford Potholes
If you live and drive in Salford you will have likely come across a rather large number of potholes in the roads.
It's a problem for all road users.
Smoking Cessation
In my second year, I visited a conference held by the charity The Swallows in Sheffield, to create this TV package on smoking cessation in the UK. I spoke to those most qualified about the impact of smoking and what needs to be done.
